About Foodsafety

By Ida Skaar

Healthy animals = safe food

Food safety aims to ensure that the food we eat is safe and does not contain infective agents or contaminants that can make it injurious to our health.
Food safety is achieved by control and measures through the whole chain of production;

  • The animal health
  • The environment in which the animals live
  • The preparing and all further handling through refining, sale and in the kitchen

Farmers, sea-farmers, veterinarians and others belonging to agriculture, food industry and trade are vital for the amount quality of the products.

The Norwegian School of Veterinary Science and the National Veterinary Institute represents a national centre of expertise concerning food safety. We are the only medical institutions with a strong focus on food safety, and have the advantage of an extensive competence within medicine across different species, which is of invaluable importance for the work concerning food safety.

The aim of the present website is to provide a full presentation of the activity of the two major veterinary institutions in Norway dealing with food safety;
The Norwegian School of Veterinary Science and the National Veterinary Institute.
